How Mekanix Tailors a Personal Training Program For You

Your goals are specific to you, so your training program should be, too.  Here is the process we follow:

The process involves a sequential pattern of fitness testing, strength and conditioning, mental training, and soft-tissue protocol to achieve peak performance.

I. Discover Your Goals

First things first. We work with you to discover and define your goals.  We’ll help you define the vision of where you want to be, the why behind it, and then set a realistic timeframe for achieving those results.

II. Determine the Baseline

Next we get a clear picture of what your starting point is.  This serves two purposes:  to ensure a safe and effective approach is administered from the very beginning and to allow us to measure your progress.   We look at:

  • Health/Medical History
  • Body Weight and Composition
  • Postural Analysis
  • Musculoskeletal Analysis
  • Strength Testing
  • Range of Motion Testing
  • Speed Testing
  • Cardiovascular / Endurance

III. Education:  General health, nutrition, and exercise principles

We provide education on health, nutrition, and overall wellness.  This includes key information up front followed by ongoing, bite sized nuggets of information so that you can build a healthy lifestyle at the same time you are training your physical fitness.

IV. Individualized Program Design

We design each program based on the results of the analysis, and the individual’s specific goals.  We progress through a series of steps:

Phase 1 – Start

First, we ensure a good understanding of pre-existing injuries and rehab as necessary.  If necessary, we’ll recommend you have them diagnosed by a physician, and get a rehab protocol designed and possibly implemented by a physical therapist.

Then we work to resolve any imbalances so you are able to start training from a solid foundation.

Phase 2 – Progress

Next, we build from that base using a program customized to your goals.  We ensure you have good form on the basics, then progress towards more challenging movements, always emphasizing form and work quality.

Attention to form and quality of movement is where Mekanix differentiates itself.  There is no shortage of studios and trainers that will  encourage you to move around with no real aim or purpose beyond working up a sweat and “working out.”  This is a highly inefficient and unsafe way to produce results.

Phase 3 – Excel

In the third phase, we progress workouts towards defined milestones or mini-milestones (a target weight, a particular calisthenics movement, preparation for an event, etc.)

V. Constants – Periodic Retesting, Reassessment, and Modification of Your Program

We regularly retest your measurements.  We also continuously reevaluate your program to tune it to your needs and adjust to how your body is responding.

Questions We Get Asked

  • How do I pick my trainer?

You can pick any trainer you like.   We recommend talking with us about your goals.  We can then recommend a trainer best suited to help you with your goals.

  • How often can I train / should I train with my personal trainer?

You can train with your trainer as often as you like.   Meeting regularly with a trainer will not only help with accountability but also with regularly evaluating how you are progressing with your goals.

  • How much does it cost?

Cost varies based on number of lessons you commit to.  A one hour lesson starts at less than a $100 and decreases as you commit to more lessons.
